pulse: Establish better connection with your customers and community
Almost nobody who opens a business is short on wanting it. What they are short on is a plan for the first five years, because that is where it gets decided. This channel is about getting through that gate, and what to build once you are through it.
Services Provided
- Small Business Advisor: Open a business built to last ten years, or a side hustle that pays monthly. Most local businesses open on a hunch and a lease. We build the plan and the numbers before you commit to anything. Starting small is not starting badly.
- Innovation Consultant: Make what you already sell noticeably better. You may not need a new product. You need this one worth talking about. We find the part customers actually notice, and fix that first.
What pulse will and will not do
According to the Small Business Administration (SBA) using the Bureau of Labor Statistics data from 1994 to 2022, more than half of new establishments close before five years. That number gets quoted at anyone who says they want to start something, usually as a reason not to. Here is the part nobody quotes. Of the businesses that reach five years, more than two thirds reach ten. The risk is not spread evenly across the life of a business. It is concentrated at the beginning. Those are averages across every industry, describing a population rather than any one business.
Which means the first five years are not something to survive by luck. They are the thing worth planning for.Â
This is not legal, tax or accounting advice, and we are not a lender. We do not file your formation paperwork, we do not prepare your taxes, and we do not arrange your funding. But we will tell you plainly when you need an attorney or an accountant, and it is usually cheaper to find out before you sign something.
